Gate Street Barn Surrey Wedding Venue
Gate Street Barn, a Surrey wedding venue, where whimsical woodland is paired with luxury farmhouse to create a wedding venue which meets every couples needs.
A sneak peak at Gate Street Barn:
First Impressions…
I first visited Gate Street Barn in Guildford, Surrey, around spring 2018, when my now-husband and I were looking at wedding venues in Surrey. Back then, the memorable celadon green caught our attention, so I was more than pleased to see this appealing colour scheme framing the multiple spaces Gate Street Barn offers when I returned to view this Surrey wedding venue in autumn 2024. This time I visited as a wedding celebrant and met with the gorgeous Leanne from the devoted events team. Leanne kindly showed me around this glorious Surrey wedding venue and talked me through how things work for wedding couples and wedding suppliers at Gate Street Barn.
An array of spaces…
I was in for a treat as lovely Leanne took time to show me around several of the areas Gate Street Barn has to offer their wedding couples. We started in the Granary, a versatile space, initially used for those last-minute adjustments and a breakout room for later into the wedding day. It was hard to miss the larger-than-life mirror adorning the room and the log burner adding a sense of cosiness I didn’t know I needed.
It’s all in the prep…
From here, Leanne led me into the Tack Room; a dressing room space oozing style with unlimited natural light which flooded in from the above skylight, plush seating, private bathroom and the cutest floral curtains I ever did see at a wedding venue! A totally lush little space for wedding day morning preparations with your besties.
The heart of Gate Street…
Central to this Surrey wedding venue, is the Barn which features natural oak beams, an impressive ceiling height (no need for the mother-in-law-to-be to worry about her fascinator!), warm wooden flooring, rustic seating and natural light which streamed in from the adjacent conservatory. I was in awe of this majestic yet welcoming space.

Bringing the outside in…
The Orangery was the next space for me to feast my eyes on; immersed in light, this area which brings the outside in through its immense glass panels, is malleable to the needs of the wedding couple and their guests. Gate Street Barn sensibility advises wedding guests to allow plenty of time to travel due to its rural location and so The Orangery provides a comfortable waiting area for your guests arriving with time to spare. Following the wedding ceremony, The Orangery is an alternative option for a drinks reception if the weather is not on your side, however, Leanne assured me that it is rarely needed…but don’t hold her to that!
Cosy vibes…
The Orangery flows seamlessly into the Pheasantry, which was perhaps my favourite of all the spaces Leanne showed me at Gate Street Barn. An alternative wedding breakfast location for more intimate weddings or bar and lounge area for those larger weddings dining in the Barn. I loved everything about the Pheasantry, the stone flooring, the panelled bar in signature green, the beams embellished with dried greenery, fairy lights creating flecks of magic and the lounge area which is thoughtfully placed to allow for guests to look out over the fields and spot the resident sheep.

Outside spaces…
We headed outside from the Pheasantry and into a quaint landscaped garden area with impressive tippee. It was easy to visualise wedding guests utilising this space from drinks reception through to late at night where they can cosy up under some fleece blankets in the tippee. This area was made even more inviting by the adorable sheep grazing in the beyond field and rustic shepherd’s hut. Here, Leanne gestured towards the woodland ceremony area which, whilst I was unable to see it for myself due to the time of year and weather conditions, sounded like a wedding celebrant’s dream. In addition to the enchanted woodland, Gate Street Barn also offers a location in their well-kept gardens for outdoor wedding ceremonies.
A groom’s heaven…
When I thought I’d seen it all, Leanne led me into the Old Dairy; another warm and inviting space. Often used for the groom and groomsmen, the Old Dairy is equipped with tea and coffee facilities, stylish bar area, cosy courtyard, impressive log burner, wooden beams, exposed brick (my fav!) and ample luxurious seating. Here, Leanne and I sat down, to drink tea (of course!) and to discuss more about weddings at Gate Street Barn.

All-star team at Gate Street Barn…
Considering a wedding planner? No need at Gate Street Barn! Leanne assured me they do their best to accommodate their wedding couples’ desires for their wedding day – whatever you envisage, the events team at Gate Street Barn does their best to make your wedding day dreams come true. With the exception of caterers (there are several for you to choose from), couples are free to employ whichever wedding suppliers they prefer, such as myself (Surrey wedding celebrant) to allow for a personalised wedding day. The events team invest plenty of time into each individual wedding couple, guaranteeing every element of the wedding day is discussed to ensure everything runs smoothly. Leanne explained wedding suppliers are contacted ahead of the wedding to encourage cohesion on your special day.
So what do the wedding couples at Gate Street Barn think…?
To get an even better of idea of Surrey wedding venue, Gate Street Barn, I asked Izzy who got married there in Autumn 2022 to spill the tea on Gate Street:
What sort of vibe were you looking for from your wedding venue?
We knew we wanted an autumnal wedding and wanted somewhere quiet and rustic feeling. I came across gate street (Instagram) and thought the feel and layout was perfect. The barn and the fixed chandeliers were a beautiful feature.
What made you choose Gate Street Barn for your wedding?
After looking around, it confirmed to us that it was perfect and the structure itself was really beautiful so not much more was needed to make it feel personalised to us. The added bonus of pets policy let us bring our dog and we loved the farmhouse on site which we stayed in on our wedding night.
What was your experience of working with the venue/events team?
The team were fantastic and super thorough! Massive shout out to the list of vendors provided by the venue; Guy Collier (photographer) and Gill Pike (florist) both masters of their craft!
What advice/ tips (if any) would you give to other couples looking to get married at Gate Street Barn?
Book early - we had 2 years to plan. Also to allow time to visit and get to know the space/grounds. We also split the cost of decking out the chandeliers with two other couples. We were Friday and they were Saturday/Sunday. Another useful thing was the vendor fairs the venue put on. It was an incredibly calm place which in result made us feel calm on the day. My husband was a big fan of the groom’s space!
If Gate Street Barn was a tea, what tea would it be?
Darjeeling - because of the freshness and it packs flavour!
Anything else you want to tell me about Gate Street Barn?
Well well equipped with amenities. Lovely space - very open. We hope to go back one day to celebrate an anniversary with one of their offshoot events.

Final thoughts from a Surrey Wedding Celebrant…
Gate Street Barn presents a flawless sense of flow between its different spaces, you can quite literally imagine the wedding couple’s journey throughout their wedding day, a credit to the layout of this Surrey wedding venue. Complimenting the thoughtful layout, I could tell from Leanne that every couple’s wedding planning experience and wedding day is handled with care, every detail considered and eventuality planned for. It was an absolute pleasure to visit Gate Street Barn and chat weddings with Leanne and now I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those gorgeous wedding ceremony spaces, the enchanted woodland being top of the list! A massive thank you to Izzy, who took the time to answer my questions about her wedding at Gate Street Barn and their lush wedding photographer Guy Collier.
