Why I love autumn weddings

Thanks to Covid, our big spring wedding became an intimate autumnal affair but I had actually always dreamed of an autumn wedding, here’s why:

1. Colours

Put simply, autumn is beautiful. I love the rusty reds, burnt oranges, the deep green of the evergreens and should you wish to wear a white dress, the contrast between the dress and autumn colours makes for stunning photos.

2. Pumpkins

Love love love pumpkins for wedding décor, you know those mini ones? They look adorable scattered around your venue, arranged on tables and dressing the aisle (if you have one). You could even paint them in your colour scheme or if you are after a bit of luxury, you can buy soft velvet pumpkins which make great home décor for after your wedding too.

3. Weather

In recent years we have been lucky to have very mild Octobers, meaning you may still be able to have an outdoor ceremony, canapes on the courtyard and gather round a firepit in the evening.

4. Price

Later into autumn there are savings to be made, as venues often offer an off-peak price and they are more likely to have availability if you’re wanting to get married sooner rather than later.

5. Sparklers

Bonfire night is my absolute favourite event of the year. If you’re a bonfire and firework fan, you can hand out sparklers to your guests to create the feel of bonfire night. A great idea for entertaining younger guests (of course they should be supervised!) and they also make for epic photos. How about a sparkler tunnel rather than the familiar confetti shot?

6. Guest attendance

Summer is a busy time for weddings but also holidays, festivals etc. It could be more likely that your all your guests can attend an autumn wedding as they are not already tied up with some other plans.

Autumn weddings are definitely worth considering and will always hold a special place in my heart.
